Stove Installation Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know if my chimney is lined?

This can be difficult to ascertain without carrying out a camera inspection. If you have decided to go ahead with the installation, we could include the cost of a liner in the estimate. If we discover that there, is one already installed and it is in a good state of repair, the cost will be reduced from the balance due.

I only need my chimney lined, can you do this?

Yes, we will carry out an external survey (chargeable) of your property so that we can assess the length of liner needed and access requirements, and then generate an estimate for you. Dependent on the height/success we may need to hire equipment to meet Health and Safety guidelines.

Why do I need a liner for my chimney?

A liner creates a clear and direct path for smoke to exit your home safely. Chimney walls deteriorate over time allowing contaminants to seep through any cracks.

I have no chimney; can I still have a stove?

Yes, our installers are trained to install twinwall insulated flue system which is an alternative to a chimney. This can be installed quite quickly depending on the exit route for the flue from the room.

What does the site survey involve?

The installers need to gain an understanding of the amount of work required to meet your expectations. This will include- type of hearth material, height of chimney, type of finish to the chamber, rood access, ventilation, surround or beam and measurements of chamber etc.

I want a false chimney breast; do I need a joiner to do this before the stove installation?

Our team can create a false chimney breast, if this is discussed at the site survey, we will include the costs in our estimate.

I have a gas fire in the chamber currently, can I still have a stove installed?

Yes, the gas supply will need to be capped off, we are able to organise a qualified gas engineer to do this on our behalf or you can. Of course, organise this yourself in advance of the installation date.

How long will the install take?

The timescales involved can vary from one day to four days, depending on the work involved.

Will my floor be protected?

Yes, the installation team take all possible precautions to ensure that your flooring is protected. They will not, however, be able to cover soft furnishings etc. due to the length of time this could take. It should be noted that due to the nature of chimney, liner, open fires and the movement of existing stoves there will almost certainly be an amount of soot that will settle in the immediate environment. Due to the fine particulates of soot, it could also settle in adjacent rooms and surfaces.

Will I need an air vent put in?

This will depend on the circumstances and the output of the stove. In general terms there is no need to create an air vent if the stove output is 5kW or less.
